The bird mural in Tumby Bay was commissioned by a lovely couple who wanted to honour their late mother with a mural, with the mural showcasing birds that are dear to their hearts.

The birds featured are; Bourkes parrots, Double Barr finches, Gouldians, Turquoisine Parrots and King Quails, with elements of flowering gums, native eucalypts, Geraldton wax and wild oats.

The Horne’s had the following to say about the mural.

“We were encouraged by your obvious dedication to the quality of your work, and it's a bit of an understatement to say the finished mural has far exceeded what we expected or imagined could be done! The exquisite detail is absolutely stunning and true to life, and a real reward for the time and effort you put in behind the scenes also to achieve this. And we also underestimated the impact that the beauty of such a wonderfully-executed mural would have on our daily lives and positive mental health...I was telling my cousin that it even makes taking rubbish out to the wheelie bin now a pleasure because I have to walk past this!

We couldn't fault your level and manner of communication, even the little courtesies of checking in regularly by text to say when you were coming and going, as well as seeking clarification during the painting process if you were unsure about any little elements of the design being just right. You were also willing to incorporate small changes/suggestions without taking offence eg change the incorrect pink tones of the quail hen to golden brown.

In regards to timelines, you kept in touch with us before and during the design phase about anticipated and updated time frames, pending other work commitments and started painting when you said you would, on Jan 1st. You were honest about your likely availability over the school holidays and we were totally fine with that arrangement as there were no deadlines to be met from our perspective, just happy anticipation.”

As an emerging mural artist it was a delight to be entrusted with a mural style that I had not portfolio to showcase (yet). Thank you Terry and Patricia for this opportunity and enjoy taking out those wheelie bins :)
